As operator of license 8/06, subarea B, Maersk Oil (Mærsk Olie og Gas A/S) has drilled the appraisal well Jude-1 (5504/7-18) in the south western part of the Danish North Sea.
Jude-1 was drilled as a vertical data acquisition well with three stratigraphic targets: Lower Cretaceous Chalk, Upper Jurassic Farsund shale and potential sandstones within the underlying Farsund Formation.
The well confirmed the presence of oil in the Lower Cretaceous Tuxen Formation of the Bo South deposit proven by earlier wells in the area. Fluid samples and logs were acquired for further characterization of the discovery.
Coring was undertaken and further data and fluid samples were acquired from the Farsund oil shale.
The well did not encounter the prognosed sandstones in the underlying part of the Farsund Formation.
Jude-1 was spudded on 2 June 2015 with the jack-up rig Noble Sam Turner at the location 55° 45 45.05" N; 04° 32' 52.87" E (UTM zone 31; 6,180,869.48 m N; 597,138.16 m E), where the water depth is 44 meters. The well terminated in Upper Jurassic clay stone at a depth of 3488 meters below mean sea level.

The well is now being plugged and abandoned. Subsequently the jack-up rig Noble Sam Turner will be moved to the Maersk Oil operated Tyra South East field for the drilling of development wells.
