Vendsyssel-1 exploration well completed in Northern Jutland

See Danish Energy Agency's press release:

As operator of license 1/10, Total E&P Denmark B.V. has drilled the exploration well Vendsyssel-1 (5710/22-2) in the northern part of Jutland close to Dybvad. Vendsyssel-1 was drilled as a vertical data acquisition well with the Alum Shales as target.

The well confirmed the presence of gas in the Alum Shales of Upper Cambrium to Lower Ordovicien age, but the thickness of the layer was smaller than expected. Coring was undertaken and data were acquired for further characterization of the Alum Shales.

Vendsyssel-1 was spudded on 4 May 2015 with the rig SMP 105 at the position 57° 17' 05" N; 10° 16' 11" E (UTM zone 32; 6,349,736.61 m N; 576,460.30 m E). The well terminated in sandstone of Upper Cambrian to Lower Ordovician age at a depth of 3564.35 meters below terrain, corresponding to 3543 meters below mean sea level.

The following companies participate in licence 1/10:

  • Total E&P Denmark B.V., 80%
  • Nordsøfonden, 20%
  • Total E&P Denmark B.V., 80%
  • Nordsøfonden, 20%

The results didn’t fulfil the partnerships expectations to reservoir properties and thickness of layers. No further work will be performed in the well, which is now being permanently plugged and abandoned.
